Illegal felling of trees increases in the beginning of winter, especially in forests and forest strips. In recent weeks, five cases of illegal logging have been registered in Balti town. Police carried out raids at night when most deforestation takes place to stop this phenomenon.
In the last three months, in Balti municipal, more than 20 trees have been illegally cut.
Recently in this forest stretch over a distance of 200 meters were illegally felled six trees with a diameter of about 30 centimeters. Environmentalists will decide on the amount of damage.
Locals claim that the people do this because they have nothing to warm up with in winter.
People say that the reaction of the authorities fails to appear, even though the municipal enterprise "Green Spaces" was informed about the illegalities committed.
Those responsible for the "Green Spaces" were not found to comment on the situation. Environmentalists argue that controls will increase with the number of illegal logging.
The fine for illegal cutting of trees reach up to ten thousand lei.
