Two people died from complications caused by flu earlier this year. The victims were a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman. According to the National Center for Public Health, they sought medical help only after a week of first symptoms.
The man has been hospitalized in serious condition in intensive care and he died shortly. The young man has not been vaccinated against influenza.
"Death occurred due to the flu. The patient has not been treated on time. He was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia" , said Public Health Center doctor Balti Elena Tureac.
According to doctors, flu complications can be avoided if treatment is started on time.
141 people have contracted influenza during the first week of the year 2017 and 70 percent of them have been hospitalized.
On the other hand, the number of cases of respiratory infections at the beginning of 2017 decreased by almost 15 percent compared to the last week of last year.
More than 700 people have caught the flu at the beginning of the cold season. In total, over 170 thousand people belonging to different risks categories have been immunized. At the same time, nearly 30 thousand doses of vaccines were distributed in the region.
