15,000 girls to be immunized against cervical cancer

Over 15,000 girls will be immunized in the next two years against the human papilloma virus, to prevent cervical cancer.
The vaccines that have bee used in 67 countries, were offered by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, at the request of the Ministry of Health.
In 2019, our country will buy them at a discounted price through UNICEF.
The virus can be transmitted sexually and can affect women, men being just carriers. Most commonly, the disease is detected at an advanced stage.
According to the Ministry of Health, the vaccination excludes the infection with this virus.
In 2015, 4,000 women suffering from cervical cancer have been registered, with 290 new cases.
Last year, 149 women died from this disease.
