According to the National Agency for Public Health, the lab results confirmed the 11-year-old child died from rabies. The biologic material was transported to WHO Collaborating Center, for Research and Reference for Rabies.
The Reference Laboratory performed the analysis of cerebral and skin biopsies collected in the postmortem patient by direct fluorescent antibody assay. Biopsy samples were considered positive for rabies and by complementary tests: the rabies virus isolation technique on cell cultures and, in parallel, with RT-PCR and RT-qPCR for genotyping.
This child was hospitalized gravely after being bitten by dog. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital later.
