Measures taken to ensure gas supply to Moldova: Trans-Balkan route in reverse flow
More than one scenarios are played out to ensure the gas supply to Moldova in the worst case that Russia and Ukraine can't reach an agreement on gas transit on the Ukrainian territory. One of them is the gas transport in reverse regime through Trans-Balkan corridor - from Bulgaria and Romania through Ukraine.
A supplement to the Interconnection Agreement between "Transgaz" (Romania) and "Ukrtransgaz" (Ukraine) will be discussed and may be signed at the working meeting organized under the aegis of DG Energy on December 12 in Brussels. The event will also discuss the preparation of all transport system operators on the Trans-Balkan corridor to ensure the gas transport in reverse regime.
A day later, in the margin of the Energy Community Ministerial Council, the Moldova's Economy Ministry plans to sign with the Ukraine's Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of security of natural gas supply.
According the a Moldovagaz's press release, by the end of 2019, Moldovagaz will sign with Gazprom the supplement to the current gas contract regarding the payment of the cost of natural gas transport services under reverse regime through the territory of Ukraine on the Orlovka-Causeni segment.
