Every two days a woman from our country dies from cervical cancer. Annually, in Moldova are recorded between 300 and 350 new cases of this type of cancer. These are the data from Ministry of Health which show that the disease is ranked seventh in the structure of oncological diseases and mainly affects women aged between 35 and 60 years.
Doctors claim that nearly all cases of cervical cancer are caused by infection with strains of human papillomavirus. It can be transmitted sexually and only affects females, the males being only carriers.

And in the next seven days, in the country will be marked European Week of cervical cancer prevention, aimed at informing and raising awareness on this issue.
150 Moldovan women die annually because of this disease. The Health Ministry plans to cut their number by 7 % by 2025. In 2015, 4,000 women were on record as suffering from cervical cancer in Moldova.
