The staff from institutions with neuro-psychological profile will be monitored, and patients will learn more about their rights. A hotline will be launched where people with mental disabilities will be able to refer any case of discrimination. This will be possible thanks to a project funded by the European Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour.

The project will last three years and aims to promote the rights of persons with mental disabilities.

"We have a van that will go and stand in each institution for two-three days in the community. We will present the telephone number of the hotline" , said Keystone Moldova project coordinator, Parascovia Munteanu.

The staff from six neuro-psychological profile institutions will be trained and patients will be informed of their rights.

"Most children are coming from socially vulnerable families which have not respected their rights, and we are those who need to explain their rights both to children and their parents." , said the Boarding director Hancesti village, Elizaveta Iacub.

"In boarding school, I had no right to anything, my rights are violated, I was told that you have no right even to go to kindergarten or to school. I am very happy that I came from the school and learned many things and I want to help them and my friends who remained hospitalized" , said Marin Andronache.

The Labour Minister Stela Grigoraş hopes that through this initiative deinstitutionalisation process will go faster.

"It is an expected project, a project for our country's situation, the situation of persons with disabilities who continue to live in institutions. The basic priority is deinstitutionalization of these people in residential institutions and their integration into biological families and social communities" , said Minister of Labour, Stela Grigoraş.

The project is worth almost 370,000 euros. Most of the money was provided by the European Union.
