Moldova border police hinders smuggling of one million lei worth of goods
An illicit case of goods transportation was uncovered at the state border by Border Police officers.
The detentions are part of planned actions aimed at preventing and fighting cross-border crime in the area under the responsibility of the southern Regional Directorate.
Thus, on July 26, 2017, based on operative information, the special investigative officers within the Directorate made a move at the Cairaclia border crossing point. Two transportation units, a Mercedes Viano and a Volkswagen Passat, were stopped and thoroughly checked as they tried to enter the Republic of Moldova. Both cars were full of bags and packages containing goods worth about one million lei.
The preliminary investigations revealed that the goods had been introduced into the Republic of Moldova from Ukraine by way of smuggling and avoiding the customs control.
The detained individuals turned out to be Moldovan citizens aged 28 and 50 respectively. They were escorted to the Directorate for further investigation of all the circumstances alongside their transportation units and goods.
At the same time, the Economic Frauds Inspection Division of the NII, itself apart of the PGI, was notified and its employees then took over the case.
