All casinos throughout the country were closed last night. The policemen sealed over 300 places. The action comes after the licenses for 65 economic agents with businesses in gambling were suspended.

On Saturday, the anti-corruption prosecutors and CNA officers conducted searches at the Chamber of License, and five persons, including the deputy director of the institution, Eduard Hadei, were detained. They are suspected for many frauds.

The suspension actions are the cause of many breaches found during the control conducted by the Financial Inspection from within the Ministry of Finances and the investigations conducted by the Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office jointly with the National Anti-corruption Office.

The owners of most gambling places have not complied with the decision of suspension of activity and the help of police was needed, which sealed the entry to the halls.

The restrictions were applied because of many irregularities registered by the Financial Inspection from within the Ministry of Finances and the investigations conducted by Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office and National Anti-corruption Office.

In these illegalities were also involved responsible persons from Chamber of License.

“The set of documents for the license was presented with irregularities, breaches, in the electronic system was marked the fact that the economic agent received the license” declared the prosecutor Viorel Morari.

As a result, the state budget was prejudiced with 15 million lei. In this case was started a penal investigation for exceeding the work attributions, and the suspects might receive up to 10 years in jail.

The Ministry of Economy has suspended the administration of the institution and stopped the issuing of license for economic agents from field of gambling until the end of the penal process.
