Cervical cancer can be prevented and treated with modern devices in Moldova. The first Colonoscopy Center was inaugurated at the Mother and Child Institute, where women could conduct high-quality investigations.

The procedure, which lasts only 15 minutes, will be free of charge for the people who have the medical insurance policy, and cost 54 lei for the uninsured.

"Many women do not accept it as a service, I want to say that the patients have to be courageous to go and examine. As uterine cervical changes are detected, there are possibilities for detection, diagnosis and successful treatment in the country " Uliana Tabuica, Head of Section.

"I'm sure this center will be supported by all people and the patients' access to these services will be more free and easier," said Sergiu Gladun, director of the IMPSP Mother and Child Institute.

The expenditures for the renovation of the building were covered by the Ministry of Health and the performances were procured with the financial support of the Embassy of Japan in Moldova. The equipment cost over 84 thousand dollars.

"In Japan, we pay attention much to fight against cancer by screening", said Masanobu Yoshii, Japan's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.

"I am very happy with the feminine population of the Republic of Moldova, women will have access to a very good diagnostic service, a diagnostic service especially at an early stage of various pathologies," concluded Boris Gîlca, Secretary General of State at the Ministry of Health.

In total, about 760,000 women, aged between 25 and 61, will be eligible for screening services. Authorities say that by 2025, cases of disease with this cancer will be reduced by 20 percent.
