Moldovans suffering from depression. Here are the numbers
Over 200,000 cases of depression were registered in Moldova in 2015. These data come from a recent report of the World Health Organization (WHO,) and they show the index is bigger than in other European countries.
Thus, 5.4 % of the Moldovan population suffer from depression.
For example, in Iceland the percentage is 4.1. In Kazakhstan – 4.4 %, and in Norway – 4.7 %. In Romania, it’s 5 %, in Russia – 5.5 % and in Ukraine -- 6.3 %.
The number of the people suffering from depression has grown 18% for the last decade, reaching 322 million. 3.6 of men have it and 5.1 % of women do.
The elderly are most prone to have depression, as the number of youth is also growing.
In addition, depression causes inability to work and that accounts for losses exceeding $1 trillion annually.
The disease is triggered by poverty, losing close relatives, physical diseases or drug abuse.
