Moldova's Education Reform to receive additional funding of $10 million
Moldova will benefit from additional funding of $10 million for the Education Reform project.
The Government has approved a draft law on the ratification of the Financing Agreement between Moldova and the International Development Association, signed in Chisinau on 12 March 2018.
Implementation of the agreement will allow further reforms in the field of education to improve the quality and efficiency of primary and secondary education.
In particular, the funds will be used to modernize the school infrastructure - endowment of 160 educational institutions with school laboratories and IT equipment, as well as the endowment of 100 schools with materials and equipment necessary for the training of pupils with disabilities and with special educational needs.
At the same time, training programs will be evaluated and adjusted, including on gender awareness and inclusive education, the training of support teachers working with pupils with special needs will be improved, capacities of the national authorities will be developed and a new funding mechanism for pre-school institutions.
The agreement provides for the reallocation of $1.7 million for the renovation of two constituency schools. Initially, financial resources were earmarked for implementing a new payroll system for school principals and teachers.
The Education Reform in Moldova project is funded by the World Bank through the International Development Association. It is implemented between April 2013 and June 2020 and is structured into three components: improving the quality of education, optimizing the education sector and strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research to monitor the reform.
