Moldova's potters conquering fame in international markets
The clay objects created by the Moldovan craftsmen are becoming more and more popular in the world. Our potters are conquering foreign markets, according to statistical data. In the first half of this year, pottery exports amounted to more than one million dollars, with 400 thousand dollars more than in the same period of 2016.
One of the successful craftsmen in our country is Adrian Onuţă, who learned the job from his grandfather. He has a contract with an online store and sells his works in 11 countries.
"Demands are getting bigger from year to year. The potteries are highly demanded in our country. Some ordered for wine pitchers or souvenirs."said potter Adrian Onuţă.
The craftsman dreams of having more employees to meet the high number of requests.
His potteries are sold in international markets with higher prices than in domestic markets. He has to use clay powder from Hungary to meet the high standards.
"Foreigners are mostly interested in smaller souvenirs. If It is not damaged, it can last thousand years. "said potter Adrian Onuţă.
A pitcher costs 250 lei and a pot - 160. There are 25 registered potters in the Union of Craftsmen in Moldova.
