The number of vaccinated children is constantly decreasing in Moldova. The situation worsened during the pandemic: no children were vaccinated for three months. According to the National Agency for Public Health, the immunization rate with the six basic vaccines in 2019 decreased 90% compared with 2005. 

The biggest concern is the rapid decline in measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations. There were only 87 percent of children received vaccine last year while around 97 percent in 2005. 

This means that every year, about three thousand newborns do not receive this vaccine. However, they continue to attend schools and kindergartens, and in private educational institutions, no one requires a vaccination certificate.

According to statistics, in the first seven months of this year, 60 cases of whooping cough, 17 cases of measles and 29 cases of mumps were registered in Moldova. These diseases could have been prevented if the children had been immunized in time.

In 2019, the World Health Organization said that skepticism about vaccinations, including the refusal to vaccinate children, is one of ten threats to humanity.

Currently, globally, immunization prevents 2-3 million deaths annually. At the same time, according to the WHO, almost 20 million children under the age of one have not been vaccinated at all.

In order to increase the immunization rate, the Ministry of Health and the Public Health Center developed the vaccineaza.md website, approved by the WHO. Here parents can calculate an individual vaccination program, as well as get answers to frequently asked questions about immunizing children.

According to the Ministry of Health, in the last 15 years, the immunization of babies up to one year has decreased by 15 percent.
