Only 28 out of 100 people from Moldova made an appointment with a dentist last year
More Moldovans decide to visit a dentist only after they feel pain. Last year, on average, only 28 out of 100 people made an appointment, by three times less than in 2016.
"-We only go to a dentist when we feel pain, otherwise no."
"-I look out for the state of my teeth. -When was the last time you saw a dentist? -I don't remember."
"-I don't make appointments often. -Why? -My teeth are healthy. -When was the last time you saw a dentist? -Around half a year ago."
Doctors warn that if people make an appointment with a dentist too late it might result in loosing affected teeth.
"Frequently they come with dental caries, more often and with gum disease, periodontal disease, sometimes the only come when they have acute pain. If they would make an appointment twice a year, many problems could be prevented" head of faculty at University of Medicine, Diana Uncuţa said.
To prevent disease, it is important to use a proper toothbrush, recommended by the doctor.
"Toothbrushes are chosen based on their durability, the patient's age, there are toothbrushes for people who wear fixed prosthodontics. It is also very important to use floss" Diana Uncuţa added.
The way teeth are brushed is also important. The toothbrush must be held at a 45 degree angle. The teeth have to be split into 3 portions and brushed in circular or vertical motions.
For healthy teeth food is also important. People are recommended to favor fruits and dairy products, over carbonated soft drinks.
According to the statistics, in 2017 there have been made over one million 2 500 appointments to dentists. While two years ago, the number reached one million 85 000. Most people who visit dentists are from the Capital, with 42 out of 100 people.
In total, they have made 350 000 appointments. In the North, only 24 out of 100 people visited a dentist, while in the center 21 and 19 in the South. Least people who made an appointment are from Căuşeni, Rezina and Şoldăneşti districts.
