Orthodox Christians celebrate today the Old Virgin Birth holiday, also called the Holy Mary. On this day, the faithful go on pilgrimages to monasteries and fruits, bread and candles are brought to churches to be sanctified.

The Old Virgin's parents were the Righteous Joachim and Anna. Because they had children, they were mocked and ridiculeand people. Her parents decided to retire for prayer and fasting. Angel Gabriel was shown and has told them that their prayer has been answered and God will send them His blessing. 

According to tradition, autumn agricultural things start todayand when the new season begins. The Virgin Birth does not light the fire, because according to popular belief, this could lead to disease.
