Over 100 schools aren't prepared for September 1st
Over 100 schools in Chisinau are not prepared for the new academic year. Only 10 of the 158 educational institutions are prepared for the new academic year. Many schools and colleges in the capital will begin studies with repair work underway, because the Chisinau Municipal Council approved late the local budget.
Ten years the "Children Academy" high school asked for money to renovate the canteen. Although in recent years, the school was repaired, cafeteria remained in a bad state. Old furniture and unbearable smell are just some of the problems.
"The ventilation system was not changed for about 30 to 33 years. There is a need to change the power grid, sewer system. Everything needs to be changed head to toe" , said the director of "Academy Children' high school, Nina Horjan.
Finally, the money has been allocated to the institution, but because it came too late, work could go on during studies.
City Hall representatives say that almost half schools in the capital are in a similar situation.
Of the 158 educational institutions, only 10 have completed the repair works, and in 58 schools the works are in full swing.
In total, the municipal budget has allocated over 40 million lei for roofs, canteens, sanitary engineering and heating, and electricity networks renovation.
