Two patrolling inspectors have been detained for bribery.

According to prosecutors, they allegedly extorted MDL2,500 from a driver for not having due documents.

The man gave them the money but lodged a complaint afterwards.

The two police officers face a sentence of 10 years in jail plus the equivalent of $8,000 as fine.
