People respond to pension hike of up to 40%

People asked by a Publika TV crew on streets welcome the pension hike:
-- May God make it be so the soonest possible!-- My pension is enough to buy only medicines. If it grows 20%, I’ll be able to pay for utilities, too.
-- It’s good. No doubt. We are now stagnating and it’s good the pensions rise.
Starting April 1, the pensions will grow by up to 40 per cent, according to a new calculation formula. 84,000 people having retired in the period 2001 – 2008 will get a hike of 37%.
The Government has earmarked MDL103 mn in this respect. The minimum pension will grow by 21% and will be 1,026 lei, and it will be disbursed to 139,000.
If the disability pension is 1,022 lei, it will increase by 39 %.
"A person with a contribution of 40 years and a salary of 3,400 lei was to get a pension of 1,802 lei, according to the old formula, but actually 3,321 lei, according to the new formula, meaning a hike of 84 %," Prime Minister Pavel Filip told his Cabinet.
The pensions for the people retiring in the period 2009-2011 will be computed next year.
Now there are over 700,000 pensioners in Moldova.
