Rally organized to commemorate Fallen Soldiers from Afghan War
Soldiers who fell in the Afghan War were commemorated today. A rally being organized for the Commemoration Day of Fallen Soldiers from the Afghanistan War. The rally was attended by Vice-President of the Parliament, Vladimir Vitiuc. The official expressed his gratitude to all former soldiers for all the sacrifices they have made, wishing them health and many years ahead with their families.
"After the horrible war which lasted 10 years, the day of 15 February is one when we remember all those who sacrificed years and their youth, even their lives, for peace. The war has deeply scarred all those who have seen the horrors, their families and the citizen's memories" Vladimir Vitiuc said.
At the rally also participated Deputy Prime Minister of Reintegration Cristina Lesnic, ministers, representatives from central and local public authorities, deputies, soldiers, former soldiers and their relatives. Participants laid flowers at the Memorial Complex Sons of Homeland in the memory of those who lost their lives in the Afghan War.
Today marks 29 years since troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan. In this war, that lasted from 1979 to 1989, were send close to 12 000 Moldovans, among whom 301 never returned home, while another 700 were injured.
