7 out of 10 women from Moldovan villages have undergone at least one form of domestic violence during their lifetime.

17 % of the women accept a violent approach on behalf of men.

A regional forum against domestic violence has unfolded today in the southern town of Cahul. The authorities have urged women not to treat the violent treatment as a norm and to call for help in abusive situations. 

"27 % say the woman must tolerate being beaten up and what’s even more serious -- 17 of women consider they must endure, when they get a fist," said deputy speaker of Parliament Liliana Palihovici.

"Every second woman in Moldova has been subjected to violence and only one out of three goes to authorities," a representatives of the UNDP in Moldova.

Back in 2014, the biggest number of violence cases was recorded in Moldova – 2,376. The trend is slightly dropping ever since.   

The police say the figures will further drop after recent law amendments.

"Starting from March, the police officer can issue this order and the aggressor may get isolated for a ten-day term," said police chief Alexandru Pînzari.

The Labor and Family Ministry says 7 centers provide assistance to the abused victims in Moldova.

According to statistics, 34 women and 3 minors died following violence case in 2015.
