Republic of Moldova attends 71st Session of World Health Assembly
On May 21-26, Geneva hosts the 71st Session of the World Health Assembly, attended by all member countries of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Republic of Moldova being represented by the Secretary General of State of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, Boris Gîlca.
This year, the event will discuss a number of topics related to WHO work, priorities for the General Work Program 2019-2023, health promotion, universal coverage of health services, tackling health emergencies, prevention and the control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as the strengthening of health systems.
Within the WHO's supreme forum, the 13th General Work Program for 2019-2023 will be discussed and signed, which will focus on three main objectives and will guide WHO in the years to come:
i) Universal coverage of medical services , anytime and anywhere,
ii) preventing and addressing emergency situations, and
iii) promoting health at all stages of life.
State Secretary General Boris Gilca will address a speech at the plenary session of May 23 stating that the Republic of Moldova is committed to and committed to universal access to medical services.
Also, the Secretary General of State has planned a bilateral meeting with Zsuzsanna Jakab, Regional Director of the WHO Office for the European Region, with representatives of GAVI - the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization to discuss the financial sustainability of the Immunization Program in the Republic of Moldova and increasing universal access to immunizations.
Boris Gîlca has already had a meeting with Sorina Pintea, Health Minister of Romania, Valery Malashko, Belarusian Health Minister, Park Neunghio, Health Minister of Korea, with Hans Kluge, Director of Health and Public Health at the WHO Regional Office with Lucica Ditiu, STOP TB Partner Executive Director Melvin Spigelman, President of the TB Alliance in the US, discussing the reforms initiated by our country in the field of health, the challenges and the need to further provide expertise and technical support to achieve them.
The World Health Assembly is the ultimate decision-making body for the World Health Organization and brings together annually, high-level representatives from the 194 member states of the organization.
We mention that the collaboration between the World Health Organization and the Republic of Moldova is regulated by the Basic Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the WHO Regional Office for Europe on 21 July 1994, WHO being one of the main international strategic partners supporting the national health system .
