Global Security threats and the interaction among law enforcement structure and International Criminal Police Organization - INTERPOL, were discussed today by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and INTERPOL executive, Meng Hongwei, who is visiting the Republic of Moldova.
Prime Minister accentuated the crucial role of International Criminal Police Organization of INTERPOL in facilitating cross-border cooperation through information exchange, analytic support and technical and operational assistance of law enforcement in combating international crimes.
INTERPOL executive said that Republic of Moldova is an important member of the organization, having a significant contribution in the creation of the database and information exchange, ranking 17th among INTERPOL member states.
Meng Hongwei appreciated the role Republic of Moldova's representatives have within the Organization and the significant contribution in consolidating relations, of IGPF chief, Fredolin Lecari, who is members of the INTERPOL executive committee, from European Continent and head of the File Control Commission, Vitalie Pîrlog.
The officials mentioned that Republic of Moldova has a strategic position between the East and the West, which is an important factor for combating international crimes.
"When law enforcement has a positive image in the society it is easier to achieve the objective" Pavel Filip said.
At the same time, INTERPOL executive claimed that the capabilities and possibilities of law enforcement vary in each country, highlighting the importance of offering necessary help to equip and train law enforcement structures. Among the main global security threats was mentioned terrorism, cross-border crimes and cyber-crimes.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip specified that in the IT era, cyber vulnerabilities are becoming bigger, while some crimes are made behind a computer screen.
Pavel Filip and Meng Hongwei have also exchanged opinions on the relations between Moldova and China. Prime Minister informed of the Government's initiative to abolish the visa requirements for Chinese citizens, which will strengthen the economic relations between the two countries, as well as develop tourism. Meng Hongwei appreciated the Government's initiative and claimed that Chinese tourists are very interested to visit Republic of Moldova, while Moldovan wines and cellars represent a touristic attraction.
