There will be constructed ultramodern irrigation system in district Cahul
There will be extended an ultramodern irrigation system in district Cahul. 300 agricultural ground placed between the localities Chircani and Zârnești will be covered by the networks. The total irrigated surface will exceed 500 hectares. The construction works cost almost two million dollars, the money is offered by the USA Government. There is expected an increase of the harvest with around 50%.
Efim Tomoianu from village Zârneşti works almost 180 hectares of arable land. The farmer cultivates vegetables and cereals. The new irrigation system will be very useful.
Efim Tomoianu, farmer, declared:Â "The harvest can be with 100% higher if we talk of a dry weather. And the higher price and an extremely high income to have. When the years are middle, 20-30% the harvest can be higher ".
The farmer hopes to be able to extend his business.
The farmer also said: "This year I want to plant ten hectares of vegetables, I have a son, he studies, he tells me that he wants to do something on his own. I tell him I’m giving him the opportunity: I will sow vegetables, we seedle what we have to and for all summer you’ll be occupied with them".
There are cultivated cereals and vegetables on this over 5oo hectares which are to be irrigated with the new system, there can be found 300 agricultural grounds. On these lots, there are cultivated cereals and vegetables.
This irrigation system is new for our country, engineers affirm.
Vitalie Titei, engineer, declared: "It’s a modular irrigation system with pomping station of fireplace type with submerssion pumps under water, which is a benefit and brings to a more efficient exploiting of the system. This permits its use depending on the request in land.
The coordinators of the project don’t stop here and want to extend the irrigation system also in other localities.
Valentina Bardajan, director of the Fund for Durable Development Fund, said: "We want to effectuate a study for all the centralized irrigation systems from Moldova. Including to determine the benefits and, if it’s reasonable that other systems be rehabilitated ".
The drainage system that covers a surface of approximately 4,6 thousand hectares, but also 10 irrigation modules with a total surface of approximately  2.500 hectares by the Programme Compact.
The drought of the last years compromised the harvest of more farmers from the south of the country. The damages provoked by this calamity is of 750 million lei in 2012.
