Thirty-six Moldovan minors celebrating the World Children's Day behind bars
There are 36 minors celebrating the World Children's Day behind bars. They either serve their sentences in prisons or are placed in pre-trial detention. According to the National Administration of Penitentiaries, most juveniles have been jailed for serious or particularly serious crimes.
As shown in the report released in April, there are 23 minors in the penitentiaries in Moldova, a large part of whom are repeat offenders. Two of the convicted minors are 15 years old, 3 are 16 years old, and 18 teenagers are already 17 years old.
Most serve their sentences at Penitentiary number 10 "Goian". According to the latest report of the National Administration of Penitentiaries, another 13 minors were awaiting their pre-trial detention. Three of them are 15 years old, 2 are 16 years old, and eight teenagers are 17 years old.
Almost 70 percent of them committed serious or particularly serious crimes.
It should be noted that all the adolescents placed in pre-trial detention are educated, and almost 60 percent are part of incomplete families or are separated from their parents.
