Ukrainian Parliament ratifies agreement with Moldova on cooperation to safeguard, develop Dniester River basin

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has ratified an agreement between Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers and the Moldovan government about cooperation on the conservation and step-by-step development of the Dniester River basin.
The Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency said some 227 parliament deputies voted in favor of draft law No. 0146 on Wednesday.
The agreement was concluded in Rome on November 29, 2012.
The explanatory note attached to the bill creates the legal and organizational conditions between Ukraine and Moldova for accomplishing warranted regional and ecological use and preservation of the water and other natural resources and ecosystems of the basin in favor the population, as well as the step-by-step development in the interests of the state.
The pact regulates the principles and directions of cooperation in this sphere, activities to prevent and limit water population, prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, monitoring and ecological appraisals, transportation impact estimates, exchange of scientific information and data, allotment of water resources, regulation of ground waters, preservation and use of biological water resources, as well as public access to information about the Dniester River basin.
