UNESCO will assist promoting Old Orhei and mentioned organization of a regional conference in Chisinau
During an official visit to Paris, Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc met with Director of the Division for Heritage and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Mechtild Rössler and Assistant Director-general, Africa Department, UNESCO, Firmin Edouard Matoko.
The officials have exchanged opinions on the current stage and perspectives of developing cooperation between Moldova and UNESCO, in protecting national patrimony and education. Minister Monica Babuc expressed her appreciation over the progresses registered in our country in promoting cultural patrimony, mentioning the recent registration of Mărțișor and March 1 in the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.
The official reiterated Government's intention to promote Old Orhei in the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage, mentioning that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research is making all efforts to consolidate the ability of protecting Old Orhei. Here, UNESCO representative expressed his willingness to offer assistance and necessary expertise to advance the project, mentioning the opportunity to organize a regional conference in Chisinau on Old Orhei, where local and UNESCO experts will gather.
Minister Babuc expressed her determination that creative industries are the fundamental element for sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova, bringing more social groups, informing the officials about the launch of the first creative HUB within the Academy of Music, Theater and Arts, meant to develop creative industries in our country. At the chapter of education, was mentioned the curriculum review process meant to increase the amount of practice, lessen the workload for teachers, as well as adjusting education to the demands of the labor market through continuous and efficient dialogue with the business environment, employers, social partners and other interested parties.
In his turn, Mechtild Rössler and Firmin Edouard Matoko appreciated the progresses registered in the Republic of Moldova in promoting its national patrimony in the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage and the measures taken to recover the education system, for teachers to regain their prestige, while the school to become a friendly institution for children.
