NGOs request 5 + 2 negotiation meeting after Tiraspol rejected discussing COVID-19 containment
Nine non-governmental organizations from Chisinau request the mediators and observers of the "5 + 2" format to convene an urgent meeting to discuss the actions of the separatist regime in Tiraspol regarding the management of the health crisis caused by COVID-19.
According to the NGO statement, the Transnistrian so-called administration has taken unilateral measures which becomes a hindrance to COVID-19 containment. Tiraspol is said to distort data on the confirmed cases and deaths and the locals are misinformed about an alleged obstruction from Chisinau.
"It's the citizens on the left bank of Nistru who appealed for this meeting. They are subjected to restriction and can't buy medicine. Quite panicked", said Liubomir Chiriac, director of "IDIS Viitor".
Tiraspol refuses to participate in the meeting of the working group at the level of health experts.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, 161 cases of COVID-19 and nine deaths are registered in the Moldovan eastern districts.
