EU allocated 87 million euros to support Moldova in tackling coronavirus pandemic
The European Union has allocated 87 million euros to support the Republic of Moldova in the fight against COVID-19. A part of this aid has already reached Moldova while the medical equipment will arrive soon in the country, announced Peter Michalko, the Head of the European Union Delegation in Chisinau.
The official said that the the EU aid was divided into several parts.
"It is about a package of 30 million, which is implemented together with the World Health Organization. Along with that comes a package of 11 million euros. We are talking about a regional package for the Eastern Partnership countries," said Peter Michalko.
Peter Michalko also mentioned the support given to economic agents who have suffered due to the COVID-19 crisis.
"Support for small and medium enterprises - this will be additional to the existing mechanism. We have credit lines, which are open in commercial banks in Moldova".
The head of the EU Delegation to Moldova also stated that the granting of this aid for the fight against COVID-19 is not conditioned by certain projects or reforms.
