Chisinau public transports could be free of charge until the coronavirus pandemic can be contained completely, Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban announced on April 2. He also stated that the Urban Bus Park and the Electric Transport Authority incurred daily loss of around two million lei. 

"We incur a loss of 1.7 to 2 million lei daily in this regard. We also addressed the Government to supplement this fund because this is unexpected huge expense", Mayor Ion Ceban said.  

Despite this huge loss, he promised the ticket-collectors who have to stay home during this period still receive their salaries.  

During the emergency situation, the trolleybuses operate on a special basis, only in the morning and in the evening, between 06:00 and 10:00 and 16:00 and 19:30, forming the high density of passenger flow. This issue remains unsolved, however. 

According to Ceban, the Directorates of Transport and Health suffer the heaviest loss since the epidemic began. Changes to the 2020 budget will be needed, he stressed.
