The Food Safety National Agency (ANSA) placed piglets in the two areas where swine fever had been discovered back in September, as 10 pigs had died.
If the piglets stay alive after 14 days, the virus will be considered as annihilated in two villages in the north of Moldova, where locals had eaten pork bought in neighboring Ukraine.
Then, the quarantine will be annulled.
The Moldovans are urged not to buy meat in Ukraine, in order to prevent the appearance of new hotbeds.
"We have confiscated over 1 tonne of meat and meat products that travelers tried to bring in from Ukraine,” said an ANSA officials.
