Prosecutor and three cops, arrested for influence peddling and active corruption
A prosecutor of Chisinau Constituency Prosecutor's Office was detained today by anti-corruption prosecutors and CNA for influence peddling.
According to the CNA speaker Angela Stavinschi, a policeman from Ialoveni and two former police officers were detained in same case.
Investigation of the case started from the denunciation of an intermediary who was responsible for transferring money from the client to the prosecutor.
The Chisinau prosecutor alleged to had influenced some magistrates of Supreme Justice Court and could persuade them to apply suspension on police officers sentenced to imprisonment for passive corruption.
In order to corrupt those judges, the prosecutor requested 15,000 EUR of which he received 10,000 EUR.
However, both policemen were jailed after Supreme Court rejected the appeals of their lawyers for "conditional suspensions".
Under these circumstances, there was a reasonable suspicion that the Prosecutor of the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office had committed the influence peddling.
Those two policemen were also investigated after sending the prosecutor the sum of 10,000 EUR for influencing magistrates.
To strengthen evidence, anticorruption prosecutors and CNA officers have conducted more searches today with the individuals concerned in the file.
As a result of the criminal prosecution, 8500 euros was found at the prosecutor's home.
Currently, the four people are detained for 72 hours and placed in the CNA isolator.
