Cancer statistics in Moldova: Over 6,000 people DIE annually

In Moldova, 48,000 people are living with a diagnosis of cancer, and over 6,000 die annualy of this disease.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular diseases.
In Moldova but also globally, the factors leading to cancer are: smoking, alcohol, obesity, diabetes, lack of physical activity.
The most common in 2015 are: breast cancer (21.7 cases), skin cancer (19.7 cases per 100 000 population) and cervical cancer ( 9.2 cases). Mortality rates in Moldova for all the types was 136.9 deaths per 100,000 people.
In this context, the Ministry of Health has launched the first National Cancer Control Program 2016-2025.
